Perimeter of Triangle-Definition, Formula, Example, Question
What is Perimeter
A perimeter is defined as the continuous line forming around the boundary of a closed geometrical figure, the perimeter word is derived from Greek words called “peri” and “metrons” which means “around” and “measure”.
What is the Perimeter of a triangle?
The perimeter of a triangle is defined as the sum of all three sides. It is the total distance around a 2D triangle or any 2D shape like a square, circle, polygon, etc. The perimeter of a triangle is defined in a linear unit since it is length-based.
Suppose that your physical trainer asks you for the total path you covered in one round of running in a triangle shape park. Now, how should you calculate?
You can calculate your path covered during the running by just adding all three sides of the park.

Formula Of Perimeter of Triangle
The formula of Perimeter of Triangle is simply we add all three sides of the triangle.
The perimeter of a triangle = the sum of all the sides of any 2D shape.
Suppose that a triangle has three sides named a,b, and c now you can calculate the perimeter of a triangle by adding all the sides.
Perimeter of triangle = (a+b+c)
The Perimeter of the Triangle of Different Triangles
Now we see the different types of triangles and their formula to calculate their perimeters:-
1. The perimeter of a scalene triangle
2. The perimeter of the Isosceles Triangle
3. The Perimeter of Equilateral Triangle
4. The Perimeter of the Right Triangle
1. The perimeter of the Scalene Triangle
The scalene triangle is the triangle whose all the sides are of different lengths, it can be calculated simply calculated by adding all the sides of a triangle. The formula of a scalene triangle is (a+b+c) where a,b, and c are the sides of a triangle having different lengths.
2. The perimeter of Isosceles Traingle
The isosceles triangle is a triangle whose two sides are equal. the perimeter of the isosceles triangle can be calculated by adding both equal sides and non-equal sides.
The formula of the Isosceles triangle is -
Perimeter of Isosceles triangle(P) = 2a+b
Where,
a= equal sides of the triangle
b= non-equal sides of a triangle
3. The Perimeter of Equilateral Triangle
The perimeter of an equilateral triangle is a triangle whose all three sides are equal, the perimeter of an equilateral triangle can be calculated by simply adding all three equal sides:-
Perimeter of Equilateral Triangle (P) = (a+a+a) = 3a
Where ,
a is the side of equilateral triangle
4. The Perimeter of the Right Triangle
The right triangle is a triangle whose one angle is 90°. The perimeter of the right angle triangle can be simply calculated by adding all three sides.
Perimeter of Right angle Triangle (P) = (a+b+c)
Note:- If the length of one side of a right triangle is not given then we can calculate by using the Pythagorean theorem:-
c^2 =a^2 + b^2
C=√a2 +b2
Where,
a and b are the known side of the Right angle triangle.
Question
Ques . Calculate the perimeter of the triangle whose sides are a=6cm,b=7cm, and c=8cm.
Ans. we know that perimeter of triangle is = (a+b+c)
= (6+7+8)
=21cm
