Thermal Radiation and Quantum Nature of Light
Thermal radiation is electromagnetic radiation produced in the matter by the thermal motion of particles. Every matter greater than absolute zero emits thermal radiation. The motion of particles occurs in charge-acceleration or dipole oscillation, which results in electromagnetic radiation.
Sources of thermal radiation include infrared radiation emitted by animals (detectable with an infrared camera) and cosmic microwave background radiation.
Quantum theory tells us that both light and matter are tiny particles that are correlated with wavelike properties. Light consists of particles known as photons, and matter consists of particles called electrons, protons, neutrons.
