Diffraction of Light
Diffraction refers to different phenomena occurring when a wave meets an obstacle or a slit. It is defined as the bending of waves around the corners of an obstacle or through an aperture into the obstacle/opening region of the geometrical shadow.
Diffraction is the slight bending of light as it moves about an object's edge The amount of bending depends on the relative size of the light wavelength to the opening distance. If the opening is much greater than the wavelength of the light, the bending becomes almost imperceptible. If the two are closer in size or equivalent, though, the amount of bending is significant and can be easily seen with the naked eye.
