The National Testing Agency (NTA) has issued the JEE Main 2025 qualifying criteria. The JEE Main eligibility criteria for both the January and April 2025 sessions are largely the same. Eligibility Criteria for JEE Main 2025
1. Nationality: Candidates must be Indian citizens. Foreign nationals, as well as NRIs, PIOs, and OCIs, are eligible to apply.
2. Age Criteria: There is no upper age limit for students taking JEE Main 2025. Candidates may, however, be needed to meet the age requirements of the Institute(s) to which they wish to apply.
3. Total Attempts: Students can take the JEE Main exam three times in a row. The first attempt is made soon after the Class 12 board exam, and the subsequent tries are made in consecutive years. Because the exam will be held twice a year, a candidate will be able to take it six times.
4. Qualifying Exam
The following are the qualifying tests for JEE Main:

The final examination of the 10+2 system, which is administered by any recognized Central/State Board, such as the Central Board of Secondary Education in New Delhi, the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations in New Delhi, and so on.

A two-year intermediate or pre-university test administered by a recognized Board/University.

Final exam for the National Defence Academy’s two-year Joint Services Wing programme.

The National Institute of Open Schooling conducts a Senior Secondary School Examination with a minimum of five topics.

The Association of Indian Universities (AIU) recognizes any public school/board/university examination in India or any foreign country as equivalent to the 10+2 system.

Vocational Examination for the Higher Secondary Certificate.
5. Year of Passing the Qualifying Exam
Candidates who passed Class 12th in 2024, 2025, or are appearing in 2025 are eligible to apply for the exam, according to the JEE Main 2025 Eligibility Criteria. JEE Main has no age restrictions. Last year, the NTA reintroduced the 75% requirement. To be eligible for admission, general/OBC applicants must have at least 75% in Class 12, while SC/ST candidates must have 65%.
JEE Main 2025 Reservation of Seats
The Government of India has set aside a portion of the total number of JEE Main seats for various categories of students. Seats are assigned in the following manner:

Admission to NITs/IITs/CFTIs through the Central Seat Allocation Board will be based on the AIR (All India Rank).

Previously, the candidate must have received at least 75% in 10+2 examinations or be in the top 20% in 10+2 exams administered by the respective board.

The qualifying marks in 10+2 for SC/ST candidates are 65% or higher.

Admission to JEE Main 2025 B.E./B.Tech, B.Arch, and B.Planning courses in NITs, IIITs, and CFTIs (through Central Seat Allocation Board) would be based on All India Rank.

However, the candidate must have obtained at least 75% in the 12th class examination, or be in the top 20%ile in the 12th class / Qualifying exams offered by the various Boards.

For SC/ST applicants, qualifying marks in the 12th class/qualifying examination would be 65%.

In the previous year 2025 JEE main exams required a minimum 75% of marks for general category and 65% for reserved category in class 12th. But in 2024, NTA has removed 75% criteria from the minimum marks eligibility criteria. So, for the JEE Mains Architecture & Planning courses, students should have to get at least 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, and 50% total marks in the qualifying examination.
