B.Tech Admission Options in India for NRIs with JEE Ranks:
In order to elaborate all the B.Tech Admission options available for NRIs with their JEE Ranks, let me explain in sequence about all the procedures, Counseling & Seat Allocations that occur after JEE Results are released. This involves both JEE Main & Advance Ranks/Results.
What happens after JEE Main Results?
Right after the JEE Results are announced (scenario of JEE 2019), following things happen in sequence.
After JEE Main Results, the final answer keys are released & the candidates who had objected the wrong answers in the answer key (by paying Rs. 1000) are refunded. Then, the final answer keys are released. After JEE Main Results are out, the students who are eligible for JEE Advanced start to prepare & register for JEE Advanced Exam.
Once both JEE Main and advance results are out, students with their JEE Rank & cutoff, start to apply for admissions in various colleges through various Counseling & Seat Allotment Processes listed below.
B.Tech Admission options for NRIs with their JEE Results (both Main & Advance):
Firstly, JoSAA Counseling & Seat Allotment is conducted after which CSAB Counseling is conducted. NRI, PIO & OCI Students are also eligible to apply for DASA / CIWG Counseling. as explained below.
JoSAA Seat Allocation:
JoSAA conducts Seat Allotment which is a 7 round process. Seat Allotment is done on the basis of AIR Ranks (All India Rank for JEE). Those 7 rounds usually includes filling in choice of Institutes (Online Mode) & Document verification at the reporting centre (offline) & Submitting the seat acceptance fees. The participating Institutes in JoSAA Counseling are IITs (admission only through JEE Advance Rank), NITs, IIITs, CFTIs & SPAs. Students can choose their choice of Institute & courses & they get alloted into their respective seats based on their merit / Ranks.
During JoSAA Procedures, If in a subsequent round, a candidate’s allotment changes from NIT/CFTI to an IIT, the candidate must report again at an IIT reporting centre, similarly if a candidate’s allotment from changes from IIT to an NIT/CFI system, the candidate MUST report again at any NIT/CFTI reporting centre. This is called Dual Reporting. Failure to do so results in forfeiture of seats allocated in both NIT/CFTI system and IIT.
CSAB Counseling: (Special Seat Allocation Round):
For the seats remaining empty during JoSAA, CSAB counseling is conducted for admissions of JEE Main qualified students in NITs, IIITs, SPAs & CFIs. This is also known as JEE Main Special Seat Allocation Round.
The students who can participate in CSAB Counseling are the ones who-
- Have qualified JEE Mains
- Have not accepted any seat during JoSAA Seat Allocation
For students applying for admissions in NITs, IIITs, CFIs, SPAs, & other colleges, here is the list of Colleges & Engineering Streams offered by top Engineering Colleges of India (also suitable for NRIs).
The CSAB Counselling also involves Choice filling of desired Institutes & courses & reporting at the Institute.
DASA Counseling for (DASA / CIWG Applicants): (For NRI, OCIs, PIOs & Foreign Candidates):
NRI/ PIO / OCI students (who appeared for SAT 2 / JEE Main) apply for DASA / CIWG Seat Allotment Process for admissions in NITs, CFTIs, IIITs & SPAs. Here is the latest update for DASA 2021 & how, JEE is Mandatory for DASA 2021.
You may think that this seems similar to that of CSAB Counseling but thats not just it. 15% of seats in all the NITs & CFTIs are reserved for NRI, PIO, OCI & foreign candidates. The Cutoff/ Closing Rank & Fees is also different for DASA Applicants conpared to CSAB Applicants.
CSAB- SFTI Counseling:
Right after CSAB Counseling, the CSAB SFTI Counseling is held for JEE Main Qualified students for admissions in top 200 Self-Finaned (Private) Engineering Institutes of India.
SFTI: Self Financed Technical Institutions could be Private Institutes in India that fall under top 200 Institutes based on NIRF India Rankings 2019. A minimum of 2/3rd of their courses must be NBC/NAAC accredited in order for those Institutes to be participating in the CSAB- SFTI Counseling.
The students who can participate in CSAB-SFTI Counseling are the ones who-
- Have qualified JEE Mains
- Have not accepted any seat during JoSAA Seat Allocation
- Have participated / not-prticipated in CSAB Counseling & have not accepted any seat in CSAB Counseling if he/she participated in CSAB Counseling.
