Back of card: Open to more than one meaning or interpretation. Example: The ending was ambiguous because readers could defend two different explanations.

SAT trap: Do not confuse ambiguous with confusing. A text can be intentionally ambiguous and still be clear.

SAT trap: On the SAT, qualify often means limit, not earn or become eligible.

Back of card: Clear and logically connected. Example: The revised paragraph was more coherent because each sentence built on the last.

SAT trap: Coherent is about logic and connection, not just grammar.

Back of card: Unnecessarily repeated. Example: The phrase past history is redundant because history already means past events.

SAT trap: SAT punctuation questions often hide redundancy inside wordy answer choices.
