How Many Questions Can You Miss and Get a Perfect SAT Score:
It is very important for Indian/NRI students to understand how the SAT exam is scored. There is no negative marking in SAT. If you mark a question correctly you will get one point. You get zero points in case you skip a question or mark it wrongly. In short whether you skip a question or mark a wrong answer it does not really make a difference.

Calculating Your Raw Score:
Raw score for both Math section and Evidence Based Reading and Writing section is calculated by just counting the number of questions which you have answered correctly. After this you have to convert your raw score to scaled score. Calculation of raw score for both Math and EBRW is done in the same way. The process is simple and easy. Just record the rightly marked answers and your job is done.
Calculating The Scaled Score For Math:
There is a chart where you can see the scaled scores corresponding to number of right answers which you gave. For the Math section the conversion from raw score to scaled score is quite simple. All you need o do is look at the chart which contains the corresponding values of your raw score. For instance, if you mark two answers wrongly, you get raw score of 56.The corresponding scaled score on the chart is 790.
Calculating The Scaled Score for Evidence Based Reading and Writing Section:
Calculating the scaled score for Evidence Based Reading and Writing section is little complicated. In case you miss marking 3 questions in reading or you marked them wrong and get a raw score of 49 out of 52 and then your scaled score for reading is 38. In case you did not mark 10 questions in writing, you get raw score of 34 out of 44 for this section. The corresponding scaled score for writing section is 32.
Now you have to add the scaled scores of both the sections and multiply the total with 10 and that will be your score for the EBRW as shown below:
Reading Section: 49 out of 53 questions are marked correctly = scaled score of 38
Writing Section: 34 out of 44 questions are marked correctly = scaled score of 32
The next step entails you to add both the scaled scores and multiply by 10
(38+32)*10
=70*10
=700
So your score for Evidence Based Reading and Writing section is 700.
If you wish to get a perfect score of 1600 you cannot miss any question or mark it wrongly. Very occasionally SAT allows one wrong answer. The student needs to strive for perfection if he or she is aiming for perfect score of 1600. Also, you need to finish the exam in a stipulated span of time. For Evidence Based Reading and Writing you can get 1 wrong and still achieve a score of 800 but this does not mean that you can depend on that opportunity. Getting a perfect SAT score is really not an easy feat.
