Vijayanagar Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS), Bellary is a government medical college in Karnataka offering 200 MBBS seats annually. Starting from 2025, Karnataka introduced an NRI quota only from newly sanctioned seats, not from the existing State/AIQ government seat matrix.
VIMS Bellary is among the government colleges where NRI quota seats are now available under this policy.
Since the NRI quota is created only from new seats added to the college, a small percentage (approximately 6–8 seats) becomes available to NRI applicants each year. Admissions take place strictly through NEET-UG and KEA counselling.
VIMS has 200 total MBBS seats, distributed into AIQ, State Quota, and a new NRI quota.
The college received 50 additional MBBS seats under Karnataka’s expansion plan.
NRI quota = 15% of newly added seats → approximately 6–8 NRI seats.
| Category | Percentage | Seats Available |
| NRI Quota | 15% of new seats | Approx. 6–8 seats |
| All India Quota (AIQ) | 15% of total seats | 30 seats |
| State Quota (KEA) | 85% of total seats | 170 seats |
1. Total Seats
VIMS Bellary offers 200 MBBS seats each year, out of which 30 are AIQ, 170 State Quota, and 6–8 NRI seats.
2. State Quota (85%)
These seats are filled by KEA based on Karnataka domicile rules, NEET rank, and reservation categories. Non-Karnataka candidates cannot apply under this quota.
3. NRI Quota (New from 2025)
NRI quota exists only because of the 50 new seats sanctioned recently.
Around 6–8 seats are allocated for NRI/OCI candidates annually.
4. Eligibility for NRI Seats
NRI applicants must qualify NEET-UG and register with KEA under NRI Category with mandatory NRI documentation.
5. Admission Rule
All admissions (AIQ, State, NRI) are filled strictly based on NEET-UG merit through MCC (for AIQ) and KEA (for State + NRI).

| Parameter | Details |
| Government Seat (AIQ/State) | ₹65,000 per year |
| NRI Quota Fee | ₹25,00,000 per year |
| Hostel Fee | ₹30,000 – ₹40,000 per year |
| Mess Charges | ₹2,500 – ₹3,500 per month |
| Course Duration | 4.5 years + 1 year internship |
1. NRI Quota Fee
For Karnataka Government Colleges, the NRI fee is fixed statewide at ₹25 lakh per year.
2. Lower Fee for AIQ Seats
If an NRI student secures an AIQ seat through merit, they pay the government fee of ₹65,000 per year, making it extremely economical.
3. Hostel & Mess Charges
Living expenses remain moderate, with hostel fees around ₹30,000–₹40,000 and mess charges averaging ₹2,500–₹3,500 per month.
4. Better Than Private Colleges
Private colleges charge ₹35–50 lakh per year for NRI seats, so VIMS Bellary offers a significantly lower cost option.
5. Two Admission Routes for NRIs
| Document Type | Purpose |
| NEET-UG Scorecard | Proof of qualifying NEET |
| NEET Admit Card | Identity/verification |
| Class 10 Certificate | Age proof |
| Class 12 Marksheet & Certificate | Academic eligibility |
| Passport | Mandatory NRI proof |
| OCI Card | If applicable |
| Parent NRI Status Certificate | Required by KEA |

Q2. How Many NRI Seats Are Available At VIMS Bellary?
VIMS Bellary received 50 newly added MBBS seats, and the NRI quota is 15% of these new seats, so the expected NRI intake is around 6–8 seats (final count depends on the yearly KEA seat matrix).
