Common details

Admission to MBBS/BDS courses in Government/Self-financing Medical/Dental Institutions coming under the purview of Single Window System in the State of Tamil Nadu was regulated by the Directorate of Medical Education, 162, Periyar EVR High Road, Kilpauk, Chennai 600010

Eligibility:

1. Candidate should be a citizen of India (ii) Nativity: Candidate should be a Native of Tamil Nadu. Except the candidates who have studied in schools in the state of Tamil Nadu from 8th Standard to Plus Two, the others are required to produce the Nativity Certificate. The candidates who are the children of parents of Tamil Nadu origin; but living in other states are also required to produce the Nativity certificate
2. Candidates should have passed in all the subjects of the qualifying examination of the Higher Secondary Certificate Examination (Academic) conducted by the Tamil Nadu State Board /any other equivalent Board in one and the same attempt in the following group of subjects with the minimum eligible marks (a) Physics, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology (b) Physics, Chemistry, Biology with any other subjects. For other communities: (a) A minimum of 60% marks in Biology or Botany and Zoology taken together (b) A minimum of 60% marks in each of the subjects of Physics and Chemistry (c) Aggregate of the percentage of marks in (a) and the percentage of marks in (b) should not be less than 140 out of 200 marks.
3. Backward Class, Backward class Christians and Backward Class Muslims: (a) A minimum of 60% marks in Biology or Botany and Zoology taken together, (b) A minimum of 60% marks in each of the subjects of Physics and Chemistry, (c) Aggregate of the percentage of marks in (a) and the percentage of marks in (b) should not be less than 130 out of 200 marks.
4. Most Backward Classes and Denotified Communities: (a) A minimum of 55% marks in Biology or Botany and Zoology taken together, (b) A minimum of 55% marks in each of the subjects of Physics and Chemistry, (c) Aggregate of the percentage of marks in (a) and the percentage of marks in (d) should not be less than 120 out of 200 marks
5. (iv) Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes: (a) A minimum of 40% marks in Biology or Botany and Zoology taken together (b) A minimum of 40% marks in each of the subjects of Physics and Chemistry (c) Aggregate of the percentage of marks in (a) and the percentage of marks in (b) should not be less than 80 out of 200 marks.

Note:

1. The Marks obtained in the qualifying examinations in the relevant scienc subjects in the first appearance only is taken into consideration for the allotment of seats tothe candidates and the improvement marks in +2 examinations of any year is considered.
2. Candidates who have passed any other equivalent examinations in the first attempt with the same group of subjects mentioned above should produce the eligibility certificate from the Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University before admission to the course
3. In the case of candidates who have furnished the mark sheets of the qualifying examination, only in Grades, the minimum marks of the grades alone will be taken into consideration while determining the marks in the Science subjects of Physics, Chemistry and Biology or Botany and Zoology.

Selection is made on merit on the basis of marks obtained by the eligible candidates in the prescribed science subjects in the qualifying examinations reduced to the base of 200 marks. The marks obtained through different boards is taken into account after normalization.
