For a family living in the United States, the most important thing to understand about Sri Venkateswara Medical College, Tirupati is not the old claim that the college has a separate block of NRI seats. The real question is which SVMC seats an NRI or OCI student can actually compete for in 2026, which counselling authority controls those seats, what fee applies, and whether Andhra Pradesh eligibility rules allow the student to use the state route.
Sri Venkateswara Medical College, commonly listed as S V Medical College, Tirupati in the MCC seat matrix, is a Government Medical College in Andhra Pradesh. The 2026-27 NMC seat matrix lists 240 MBBS seats. MCC’s Round 1 matrix lists 36 seats under the 15% All India Quota. Those 36 seats are AIQ seats, not NRI-quota seats.
As of 11 August 2026, the current published framework does not show a separate NRI / Category-C MBBS seat block at SVMC Tirupati. The college has 240 MBBS seats, including 36 seats in MCC’s 15% AIQ matrix. The Andhra Pradesh 2026-27 prospectus lists the remaining 204 seats under Competent Authority Quota, so the published 240-seat intake is fully accounted for as 36 AIQ + 204 Competent Authority seats. Therefore, an NRI family should not treat “36 AIQ seats” as “36 NRI seats,” and should not budget for a separate ₹20-25 lakh SVMC NRI fee.
If you are shortlisting SVMC from the USA, these are the facts worth checking before you rely on an older NRI-seat table or a third-party fee estimate.
| Parameter | 2026 Position | Why It Matters to a USA-Based Family |
|---|---|---|
| College | Sri Venkateswara Medical College, Tirupati | In MCC documents it appears as “S V Medical College, Tirupati.” Use the exact college name and institute code while checking choices. |
| MCC institute code | 200426 | Useful when checking the 2026 MCC AIQ seat matrix and avoiding similarly named Tirupati institutions. |
| Institution type | Government Medical College | This is why its seat and fee structure should not be copied from a private-college Category-C NRI model. |
| Total MBBS intake | 240 seats | NMC’s 2026-27 seat matrix lists 240 MBBS seats for SVMC. |
| 2026 MCC AIQ seats | 36 seats | These are 15% All India Quota seats. They are not a dedicated NRI quota. |
| Remaining government-college seats | 204 Competent Authority Quota seats in the AP 2026-27 prospectus | These are the state-side seats shown in the official prospectus and are governed by Andhra Pradesh eligibility, local-area and reservation rules. |
| Separate SVMC NRI / Category-C seats | No separate NRI row shown in the current published framework | Do not interpret the 36 AIQ seats as NRI seats or prepare NRI sponsorship papers solely for an SVMC AIQ choice. |
| Entrance exam | NEET UG | A valid NEET UG qualification and rank are mandatory for MBBS admission. |
| Counselling authorities | MCC for AIQ; Dr NTRUHS for AP Competent Authority Quota | A USA family must first identify which route the student is legally eligible to use before building a choice list. |
| Course duration | 4.5 years + 1-year compulsory rotating internship | Plan the complete 5.5-year pathway, including internship and India-based reporting requirements. |
The current 2026 seat information does not show a separate NRI quota at Sri Venkateswara Medical College, Tirupati. This is the most important correction to older versions of this page.
SVMC has 36 seats in MCC’s 2026 Round 1 All India Quota matrix because 36 is 15% of its 240-seat intake. That percentage does not make the seats NRI seats. AIQ is a national merit-and-reservation route. NRI quota is a separate seat category that must be specifically notified by the counselling authority for the institution concerned.
Andhra Pradesh has used NRI / Category-C seats in other parts of its medical-admission structure, including private medical colleges and specified government-college arrangements introduced for newer colleges. That does not mean every Andhra Pradesh Government Medical College automatically has a Category-C NRI block. SVMC was established decades before the new-government-college self-financing/NRI framework and is handled as a regular government medical college for its standard state seats.
If your main goal is an NRI seat rather than SVMC specifically, use TestPrepKart’s medical colleges accepting NRI quota and NRI MBBS seats in India guides to build the right shortlist.
NMC lists 240 MBBS seats at S V Medical College, Tirupati for 2026-27. MCC’s Round 1 matrix accounts for 36 of those seats under the All India Quota. The 36-seat AIQ distribution is shown below.
| MCC AIQ Category | 2026 Round 1 Seats |
|---|---|
| BC – Non PwD | 9 |
| EWS – Non PwD | 4 |
| EWS – PwD | 1 |
| Open – Non PwD | 13 |
| SC – Non PwD | 6 |
| ST – Non PwD | 3 |
| Total 15% AIQ seats | 36 |
This distinction is where most of the confusion around SVMC starts. The three labels are not interchangeable.
| Point | 15% AIQ at SVMC | AP Competent Authority Seats at SVMC | NRI / Category-C Seat |
|---|---|---|---|
| Separate seat category at SVMC? | Yes, 36 AIQ seats are listed by MCC | Yes, state-government seats remain after AIQ contribution | No separate SVMC NRI row currently shown |
| Counselling authority | MCC | Dr NTRUHS, Andhra Pradesh | Only where separately notified by the relevant counselling authority |
| NEET required? | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| NRI sponsor required? | No, not merely because the candidate is using AIQ | No NRI sponsorship route is created by the regular SVMC state seat itself | Usually relevant only where an NRI category is actually notified and its rules require it |
| Can an NRI student compete? | Potentially, subject to MCC nationality/eligibility rules | Only if the student satisfies Andhra Pradesh’s applicable citizenship and local/non-local rules | Only if the specific NRI seat exists and the candidate satisfies that category’s rules |
For a broader comparison, see TestPrepKart’s NRI quota vs management quota in MBBS guide.
If your child studies in the United States, the difficult part is often not just NEET preparation. Families also have to separate AIQ, state quota and genuine NRI-seat rules. This free guide brings together eligibility, documents, counselling basics and admission planning in one place.
Download NEET E-Book GuideThere is no separate SVMC NRI tuition fee to quote when the college does not have a separately notified NRI seat category. The older claim that an SVMC NRI student pays ₹20-25 lakh per year should therefore be removed from this page.
For Andhra Pradesh Government Medical Colleges, the 2026-27 prospectus says the current-year tuition will be as decided by the Government of Andhra Pradesh, subject to the stated court proceedings. Its reference fee table carries ₹15,000 per annum for Government Medical College Category-A MBBS seats. Families should therefore use ₹15,000 only as the published reference tuition in the prospectus and re-check the admission order issued for the allotted seat before payment.
| Cost Item | 2026 Position | What the Family Should Do |
|---|---|---|
| Published existing Govt MBBS Category-A tuition | ₹15,000 per annum in the prospectus reference table | Re-check the current allotment/admission instructions before payment because the prospectus says the 2026-27 fee is subject to the Government decision and stated court proceedings. |
| Separate SVMC NRI tuition | Not applicable as a separately notified SVMC seat category | Do not arrange a ₹20-25 lakh “SVMC NRI fee” on the basis of an older third-party table. |
| Hostel, mess, deposits and university charges | Separate / institution-specific | Ask for the current reporting-time fee sheet before travelling to Tirupati. |
A family could otherwise reject SVMC because it appears to carry a high NRI fee, or could incorrectly expect a lower NRI cutoff in exchange for that fee. Neither assumption should be used for SVMC unless a future official seat matrix specifically creates an NRI category for the college.
There is no final 2026 SVMC Round 1 closing rank yet as of 11 August 2026. MCC has scheduled the Round 1 result for 17 August 2026. Until allotment data is published, any page presenting a final 2026 SVMC AIQ closing rank or an “SVMC NRI cutoff” should be treated cautiously.
The NEET qualifying cutoff is different from the rank normally needed to secure a government-college seat such as SVMC. Dr NTRUHS’s 2026 notification lists the following NEET qualification ranges:
| Category | NEET 2026 Qualifying Standard | Score Range Shown in AP Notification |
|---|---|---|
| General / EWS | 50th percentile | 715-213 |
| General / EWS PwBD | 45th percentile | 212-194 |
| SC / ST / BC | 40th percentile | 212-177 |
Qualifying NEET does not mean the student is likely to get SVMC. A government-college closing rank depends on actual competition, category, quota, choice order and round. Use TestPrepKart’s NEET cutoff guide for NRI students for the difference between qualification and admission-level competition.
The useful lesson for SVMC is not how to claim an NRI seat at this college. It is how to recognize the difference between a genuine NRI seat and a regular AIQ or state seat that an NRI-family student may still be eligible to compete for.
An NRI connection does not convert every medical-college seat into an NRI seat. The quota has to exist in the official matrix, and the student must then satisfy that category’s rules. At SVMC in 2026, the visible MCC route is AIQ, not a special NRI row.
Watch NRI Quota VideoPotentially yes, but “NRI” itself is not the admission category at SVMC. The answer depends on which counselling route the student is trying to use.
An NRI-family student may compete through MCC if the candidate satisfies MCC’s nationality, NEET and counselling eligibility. The seat remains an AIQ seat; NRI sponsorship does not create extra preference inside SVMC’s AIQ matrix.
The student must satisfy the state’s applicable citizenship and local/non-local residence rules. Living in the USA does not by itself create Andhra Pradesh state-seat eligibility.
Dr NTRUHS’s 2026 notification states that PIO/OCI cardholders registered on or after 4 March 2021 are eligible only against an NRI seat or a supernumerary seat and are not eligible against a seat reserved exclusively for Indian citizens. Since SVMC does not currently show a separate NRI seat block, an OCI family should check this point carefully before assuming the AP state route is usable.
For a full nationality and status check, read TestPrepKart’s NEET eligibility guide for NRI, OCI and PIO students.
Keep NEET preparation, eligibility checks and college research in one place while your family plans from the USA.
A U.S. high-school diploma alone should not be treated as automatic Indian MBBS eligibility. For the Andhra Pradesh 2026 process, the qualifying examination must be equivalent to the required 10+2 standard with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English, and the candidate must satisfy the applicable marks and age requirements.
For a U.S.-curriculum-specific check, read Can American curriculum students take NEET? and NEET syllabus gaps in U.S. high school.
The document file should match the route you are actually using. A major mistake would be to prepare only an “NRI sponsor file” for SVMC when the student is really applying through regular MCC AIQ or Andhra Pradesh Competent Authority Quota.
| Document Group | Prepare | USA / NRI Note |
|---|---|---|
| NEET | NEET UG scorecard, admit-card/identity documents as required by the counselling authority | The student’s NEET details should match passport and academic records. |
| Identity | Valid passport and other required identity proof | Check spelling, date of birth and name order across U.S. and Indian records. |
| Academics | Class 10 and 12/equivalent mark sheets and passing certificates | Foreign-board students should resolve equivalence before final reporting where applicable. |
| MCC AIQ route | MCC registration, allotment and reporting documents | Do not assume an NRI sponsorship affidavit is required simply because the family lives abroad; follow the actual AIQ document list. |
| AP state route | Residence/local status and other certificates required by Dr NTRUHS | State-seat eligibility must be established separately from NRI status. |
| OCI / PIO | OCI/PIO card and passport plus route-specific counselling documents | The AP restriction for OCI/PIO registrations on or after 4 March 2021 should be checked before relying on the state route. |
| Reporting | Allotment letter and original documents requested by SVMC / counselling authority | Families in the USA should decide early how originals will reach India if reporting is required on short notice. |
If you are also applying to colleges that genuinely have NRI seats, keep a separate NRI document set. TestPrepKart’s NRI NEET document checklist can be used for those NRI-specific choices.
For counselling strategy beyond this college, see TestPrepKart’s NEET choice-filling guide for NRI students and NEET UG counselling rules for NRI students.
| Activity | 2026 Round 1 Date | USA Family Action |
|---|---|---|
| Registration | 5-12 Aug, up to 3:00 PM IST on 12 Aug | Do not calculate the deadline in U.S. local time at the last minute. |
| Payment | Up to 6:00 PM IST on 12 Aug | Finish payment before the final hours in case the bank or card transaction fails. |
| Choice filling | 6-13 Aug, up to 11:00 AM IST on 13 Aug | Use the exact S V Medical College, Tirupati entry and institute code 200426. |
| Choice locking | 4:00 PM IST 12 Aug to 11:00 AM IST 13 Aug | Re-check quota, category, college and preference order before locking. |
| Round 1 result | 17 Aug 2026 | Only after this result should the 2026 Round 1 SVMC AIQ closing rank be updated. |
| Reporting / joining | 18-22 Aug 2026 | Keep originals and a possible India travel plan ready if the student receives and accepts an allotment. |
| AP Activity | Current 2026 Window | Important Note |
|---|---|---|
| Registration without late fee | 5:00 PM, 5 Aug to 9:00 PM, 12 Aug 2026 | OC/BC application fee ₹3,000; SC/ST ₹2,400, plus bank charges. |
| Registration with late fee | 7:00 AM, 13 Aug to 1:00 PM, 14 Aug 2026 | Late fee is ₹20,000 in addition to the normal application fee. |
| Application validity | Same application considered for subsequent rounds, subject to rules | Dr NTRUHS states no new registration will be allowed after the notified registration schedule closes. |
If the student’s practical admission plan depends on an NRI seat because regular AIQ or AP state eligibility is not available, do not keep SVMC on the list as though it were a Category-C NRI college. Instead, shortlist institutions and seat categories that are actually notified for NRI candidates in the relevant Andhra Pradesh counselling cycle.
Start with TestPrepKart’s complete NRI MBBS admission guide and lowest MBBS fees for NRI students before comparing fee-heavy options.
For a family in California, Texas, New Jersey or another U.S. state, the practical problem begins after the allotment. A government-college seat can still be lost if the candidate misses the applicable reporting requirement or cannot produce original documents on time.
Get structured NEET preparation plus NRI-focused admission guidance so exam strategy and counselling decisions are not handled separately.
For students studying in a U.S. school system, the preparation problem is often a mix of syllabus gaps, time-zone pressure and limited NCERT-style practice. TestPrepKart’s NEET courses are designed to add structured teaching, testing and revision around the student’s school schedule.
Student experiences can help USA-based families understand how structured preparation, regular testing and revision support can fit around a U.S. school schedule. Individual outcomes vary, so results should be viewed as student experiences rather than score guarantees.

A college page is useful only if it helps the family make the next decision. TestPrepKart combines NEET preparation support with NRI-focused admission guidance so that academic preparation, eligibility paperwork and counselling timelines are not handled as three unrelated problems.
The current published 2026 framework does not show a separate NRI / Category-C MBBS row for Sri Venkateswara Medical College, Tirupati. The 36 seats shown by MCC are 15% All India Quota seats, not NRI seats.
NMC’s 2026-27 seat matrix lists 240 MBBS seats at S V Medical College, Tirupati.
No. MCC lists 36 seats under the 15% All India Quota for Round 1. AIQ and NRI quota are different admission categories.
There is no separate SVMC NRI fee to quote when no separately notified SVMC NRI seat category is shown. The AP 2026-27 prospectus says the current-year fee will be as decided by the State Government and its reference table shows ₹15,000 per annum for Government Medical College Category-A MBBS seats. Re-check the allotment/admission order before payment.
Potentially, if the candidate satisfies the eligibility rules of the route being used. For MCC AIQ, follow MCC nationality and counselling rules. For Andhra Pradesh state seats, the candidate must separately satisfy the state’s citizenship and local/non-local requirements.
This requires careful checking. Dr NTRUHS’s 2026 notification states that PIO/OCI cardholders registered on or after 4 March 2021 are eligible only against NRI or supernumerary seats and not seats reserved exclusively for Indian citizens.
Yes. A valid NEET UG qualification and rank are mandatory for MBBS admission through both the MCC AIQ and Andhra Pradesh counselling routes.
A final 2026 Round 1 closing rank was not available on 11 August 2026 because MCC has scheduled its Round 1 result for 17 August. The college closing rank should be updated after official allotment data is published.
No special preference is created merely by having an NRI sponsor. The 36 SVMC seats in MCC’s matrix are regular AIQ seats and are allotted under the applicable MCC merit and reservation rules.
Foreign-school students should verify whether their exact qualification requires an equivalence certificate and should ensure the required Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English subjects are properly documented before counselling and reporting.
MCC conducts counselling for the 15% All India Quota seats. Dr NTRUHS conducts Andhra Pradesh Competent Authority counselling for the applicable state seats.
Do not use SVMC as though it were a Category-C NRI college. Build a separate list of colleges whose current seat matrix actually includes NRI seats, then compare eligibility, documents, fees and closing ranks for those specific NRI categories.
Bring the student’s NEET rank, citizenship/OCI status, U.S. school curriculum and Andhra Pradesh eligibility into the same discussion. That makes it easier to separate a real admission route from a quota label that does not apply to this college.
