Established in 1951, Government Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram is Kerala’s oldest and most reputed medical college, offering 250 MBBS seats annually. The college has no separate NRI quota—admissions for all, including NRI/OCI students, are based on NEET-UG merit, and all pay the standard government fee.
Government Medical College, Kozhikode does not have a separate NRI quota. NRI/OCI candidates may apply under the standard quotas (AIQ or State Quota) and pay the same subsidised government fee as Indian students, which is around ₹23,000–₹32,000 per year.
Government Medical College (GMC) Thiruvananthapuram offers 250 MBBS seats, with 85% reserved for the State Quota and 15% for the All India Quota (AIQ).
| Quota Type | Number of Seats | Percentage |
| Total MBBS Intake | 250 | 100% |
| State Quota | 213 | 85.20% |
| All India Quota (AIQ) | 37 | 14.80% |
1. Total Seats
Government Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram offers 250 MBBS seats every year. Out of these, 15% are allotted under the All India Quota (AIQ) and the remaining 85% fall under the Kerala State Quota (SQ).
2. State Quota (SQ)
A total of 213 seats are reserved for candidates from Kerala under the State Quota. These seats are filled through KEAM counselling conducted by the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations (CEE), Kerala, and include categories such as Open Merit, EWS, OBC (SEBC), SC/ST, and other reserved groups.
3. No Separate NRI/OCI Quota
Government Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram does not have a dedicated NRI or OCI quota. Being a government institution, it follows state and central reservation policies without offering any separate or higher-fee NRI category.
4. NRI/OCI Students – Seat Eligibility
NRI and OCI candidates cannot apply under a special NRI quota in this college. However, they can apply through the All India Quota (37 seats) via MCC counselling or under the Kerala State Quota, provided they hold Kerala domicile and meet KEAM eligibility requirements.
5. Admission Process
For admission, students must qualify NEET-UG and participate in:
| Fee Component | Amount (Approx.) |
| Fees for Indian Students (per year) | ₹26,630 |
| Fees for NRI Students | Same as Indian |
| Breakdown: | |
| Admission Fee (one-time) | ₹4,830 |
| Tuition Fee (per year) | ₹23,150 |
| Library & Lab Charges (per year) | Included |
| Miscellaneous / Exam Fee (per year) | ₹1,740 |
| Van Fee (per year) | ₹1,740 |
| Hostel Fee (includes mess) | ₹42,000 |
| Total First-Year Fee (approx.) | ₹31,460 (College) |
| Total First-Year Fee (with Hostel) | ₹73,460 |
Adding these together gives the realistic total annual expense, helping students and parents plan financially with full transparency.

GMC Thiruvananthapuram offers one of the most affordable MBBS programs in India, with a subsidized fee structure. The first year includes one-time admission charges, while later years have lower annual fees. Hostel and mess fees are charged separately.
| Year | Total Fee (Approx.) |
| 1st Year | ₹ 31,460 |
| 2nd Year | ₹ 28,630 |
| 3rd Year | ₹ 28,630 |
| 4th Year | ₹ 28,630 |
| Final Half Year | ₹ 14,000 – ₹ 15,000 |
The first-year fee is the highest because it includes one-time payments such as university registration, caution deposit, and admission processing charges. These are paid only once at the time of joining. Hence, the total first-year amount is around ₹31,460.
From the second year onward, students pay only recurring annual fees like tuition, library, and miscellaneous charges. As the one-time payments are already covered, the fee becomes consistent at about ₹28,630 per year, making these years more affordable.
The final half year of the MBBS course is shorter in duration (about six months), so students pay roughly half the regular annual amount, around ₹14,000–₹15,000. This reduced fee reflects the shorter academic term before internship begins.
In NEET 2025 counselling, GMC Thiruvananthapuram saw highly competitive closing ranks under the All India Quota (AIQ). General, OBC, and EWS categories had top cutoffs, while SC, ST, and PwD categories followed with slightly relaxed ranks.
| Category | Round 1 | Round 2 | Round 3 |
| General | 1,695 | 3,218 | 4,913 |
| OBC | 2,301 | 5,722 | 5,764 |
| SC | 39,027 | 82,458 | 99,785 |
| ST | 90,752 | 116,504 | – |
| EWS | 8,450 | – | 24,538 |
| General PwD | 158,157 | 258,759 | – |
These ranks represent the All India Quota (15%) NEET 2025 Round 1, Round 2 and Round 3 closing ranks for GMC Thiruvananthapuram.
The closing rank was 1,695 in Round 1, 3,218 in Round 2, and 4,913 in Round 3. This indicates that more students received seats in subsequent rounds, which is consistent with rank relaxation as positions become available.
OBC candidates showed comparable flexibility in subsequent rounds, with ranks ranging from 2,301 in Round 1 to 5,764 in Round 3. Students with moderate NEET scores can still be admitted in later counselling rounds, according to the trend.
Due to the reserved quota system and seat availability over several rounds, SC category admissions closed at 39,027 in Round 1 and increased to 99,785 by Round 3.
In Round 1, the ST category’s closing rank was 90,752, and in Round 2, it was 116,504. In Round 3, there were neither reported nor available seats, most likely as a result of all seats having been filled earlier.
The EWS category’s closing rank in Round 1 was 8,450, and following a lapse in Round 2 data, it rose to 24,538 in Round 3, indicating greater accessibility for candidates in later rounds.
Additional relaxation for physically disabled candidates under the NEET reservation policy is indicated by the General-PwD category’s closing ranks, which were 158,157 in Round 1 and 258,759 in Round 2.
