Established in 1957, Government Medical College, Kozhikode is one of Kerala’s oldest and most reputed medical colleges, offering 250 MBBS seats annually. The college has no separate NRI quota—admissions for all, including NRI/OCI students, are based on NEET-UG merit, and everyone pays the standard government fee.
Government Medical College (GMC), Kozhikode, has no separate NRI quota, but NRI/OCI candidates can apply through AIQ or State Quota. The MBBS fee is the same as Indian students, approximately ₹20–25 lakh, while Indian students pay a subsidized fee of only ₹31,715 per year
Government Medical College, Kozhikode admits 250 MBBS students every year, with about 15% reserved for NRI/OCI candidates under Kerala state counselling.
| Category | Seats Available | Notes |
| MBBS seats for Indian students | 213 | Filled via AIQ + State Quota |
| MBBS seats for NRI/OCI students | 37 (15%) | NRI quota via Kerala counselling |

Government Medical College, Kozhikode charges about ₹31,715 per year for Indian students, while NRI students pay around ₹15–20 lakh per year under the NRI quota.
| Sl. No. | Fee Component | Amount (₹) |
| 1 | Tuition Fee | 23,150 |
| 2 | Miscellaneous & Van Fee | 3,480 |
| 3 | University Registration Fee | 2,520 |
| 4 | Verification Fee | 100 |

| — | Total (Approx.) | ₹31,715 + PTA Fund |
1. Tuition Fee
This is the annual tuition fee applicable to all MBBS students except those belonging to SC/ST/OEC categories, who receive a full tuition fee waiver as per government policy. It covers the cost of classroom teaching, hospital training, and academic resources.
2. Miscellaneous and Van Fee
This charge includes various administrative and campus service expenses such as student ID, lab maintenance, examination stationery, and local transport (van) services provided by the college.
3. University Registration Fee
This is a one-time payment made at the time of admission to register the student with the Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS), which oversees the academic and examination processes of the college.
4. Verification Fee
A small mandatory fee collected by the university or college to verify documents and credentials submitted during the admission process.
5. Caution Deposit
This is a refundable security deposit collected at admission. It covers potential damages to college property (like labs or library materials) and is refunded upon course completion.
6. Library & LRC Fee
The Library and Learning Resource Centre (LRC) fee provides access to the college’s central library, digital journals, e-learning materials, and study spaces. It’s collected annually from all students.
7. PTA Fund – Extra (Variable)
The Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) fund is a contribution made by each student to support extracurricular activities, welfare initiatives, and improvement of student facilities. The amount may vary each year.

Government Medical College, Kozhikode follows a structured and affordable year-wise fee system. The first year includes admission charges, while subsequent years have consistent fees. The final half-year fee is comparatively lower, with hostel and mess charges applied separately.
| Years | 1st Year | 2nd Year | 3rd Year | 4rd Year | 5th Year |
| Tuition fees | ₹23150 | ₹23150 | ₹23150 | ₹23150 | ₹23150 |
| Registration fees | ₹2665 | – | – | – | – |
| Caution fee | ₹2320 | – | – | – | – |
| library fees | ₹2000 | ₹2000 | ₹2000 | ₹2000 | ₹2000 |
| miscellaneous fees | ₹3580 | ₹3480 | ₹3480 | ₹3480 | ₹3480 |
| Yearly Fees | ₹33,715 | ₹28,630 | ₹28,630 | ₹28,630 | ₹28,630 |
The first-year fee is the highest, while the second to fourth years have comparatively lower annual costs, and the final half year has the lowest fee due to its shorter academic duration.
The first-year fee is slightly higher because it includes one-time payments like university registration, caution deposit, and admission-related charges. These are only paid once at the time of joining, in addition to regular tuition, library, and miscellaneous fees.
From the second year onward, students pay only the recurring annual expenses — mainly tuition, library, and miscellaneous fees. Since the one-time charges are already covered, the total amount is lower and remains consistent each year.
The fifth or final year has a shorter academic duration, usually covering just six months before the internship begins. Because of this reduced term, the college typically charges a proportionately lower fee for that year.
In NEET 2025 counselling, Government Medical College, Kozhikode saw highly competitive closing ranks under the All India Quota (AIQ). General, OBC, and EWS categories had top cutoffs, while SC, ST, and PwD categories followed with slightly relaxed ranks.
| Category | Closing Rank (AIQ) |
| General | 1173(AI) |
| OBC | 1,556-2,597(AI) |
| SC | 15754(AI) |
| ST | 75,126-1,25,063(AI) |
| EWS | 8,702-3,617(AI) |
| General (PwD) | 1,43,340(AI) |
| SC (PwD) | 8,76,255(AI) |

1. General Category – Closing Rank: 1,173 (AIQ)
Only the highest-performing students (those with scores above 700) were able to secure seats in the General category, which had the most competition with a closing rank of 1,173. This is in line with Kozhikode’s standing as one of the best government medical schools in India.
2. OBC Category – Closing Rank Range: 1,556 – 2,597 (AIQ)
The closing rank increased marginally, to about 2,600, for OBC candidates. Although the cutoff is somewhat loosened in comparison to General, it is still very competitive, suggesting that OBC students across the country have a high demand.
3. EWS Category – Closing Rank Range: 8,702 – 13,617 (AIQ)
Closing ranks for the EWS category ranged from 8,700 to 13,600, indicating a considerable easing of cutoff scores in contrast to the General category. Here, candidates with scores between 640 and 650 were typically competitive.
4. SC Category – Closing Rank: 15,754 (AIQ)
In contrast to OBC and EWS, SC candidates were admitted with ranks as high as 15,754, indicating a more lenient cutoff. The average score for students in this range was 600–620, which still indicates a high level of academic proficiency.
5. ST Category – Closing Rank Range: 75,126 – 1,25,063 (AIQ)
Students in the 550–580 mark range were admitted because the closing rank for ST students reached 1.25 lakh. This illustrates how Kerala supports under-represented communities through its inclusive medical admission policy.
6. PwD Category – Closing Rank Range: 1,43,340 – 8,76,255 (AIQ)
The closing ranks for PwD seats ranged the most, from 1.4 lakh for General PwD to over 8.7 lakh for SC PwD. This is an example of horizontal reservation, in which PwD candidates compete within their respective categories with more lenient cutoffs.
