Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences (BIMS), Belagavi is a government medical college in Karnataka offering 200 MBBS seats. From 2025 onward, Karnataka introduced an NRI quota in selected government medical colleges based on newly sanctioned MBBS seats, and BIMS is one of the institutions included in this update.
Since the NRI quota applies only to newly added seats, a small portion of these seats is reserved for NRI applicants each year. All admissions are based on NEET-UG, and fee structure depends on whether the student is admitted through AIQ or the NRI quota.
BIMS has 200 MBBS seats, divided into AIQ, State Quota, and new NRI quota seats. The NRI quota is calculated at 15% of newly added seats, not on the entire 200 seats.
Since BIMS received 50 additional MBBS seats, the NRI quota equals approximately:
6-8 NRI seats
| Category | Percentage | Seats Available |
| NRI Quota | 15% of newly added seats | Approx. 6-8 seats |
| All India Quota (AIQ) | 15% of total seats | 30 seats |
| State Quota (KEA) | 85% of total seats | 170 seats |
1. Total Seats
BIMS Belagavi has 200 sanctioned MBBS seats. Out of these, 30 seats fall under the All India Quota (AIQ) and 170 seats under the State Quota.
2. State Quota (85%)
State Quota seats are allotted through KEA based on Karnataka domicile rules and reservation policies. Only Karnataka-eligible students can apply for these seats.
3. NRI Quota
Starting in 2025, BIMS began offering NRI quota seats as part of Karnataka’s government seat expansion initiative. These seats come from the newly added 50 seats, resulting in approximately 6-8 NRI seats each year.
4. Eligibility for NRI Seats
NRI candidates must qualify NEET-UG and apply through KEA under the NRI category. They must upload valid NRI documents and meet NEET requirements.
5. Admission Rule
Admissions to AIQ, State Quota, and NRI Quota seats are filled strictly on NEET-UG merit through transparent counselling conducted by MCC and KEA.

The fee amount differs significantly between government seats and NRI quota seats.
| Parameter | Details |
| Government Seat Tuition Fee | ₹65,000 per year (approx.) |
| NRI Quota Fee | ₹25,00,000 per year |
| Hostel Fee | ₹30,000 – ₹40,000 per year |
| Mess Charges | ₹2,500 – ₹3,500 per month |
| Course Duration | 4.5 years + 1 year internship |
1. NRI Quota Fee
The NRI quota fee is fixed statewide at ₹25 lakh per year, providing a dedicated pathway for NRI applicants.
2. Government Seat Fee
NRIs who secure a seat through AIQ pay the much lower government fee of ₹65,000 per year, making this route highly economical.
3. Hostel & Mess Costs
Hostel fees range between ₹30,000-₹40,000, and mess charges average ₹2,500-₹3,500 per month, keeping overall living costs manageable.
4. Value Comparison
Compared to private medical colleges, where NRI fees can exceed ₹35-40 lakh per year, BIMS offers a more affordable NRI seat option.
5. Two Pathways for NRI Students
NRI students can choose:
| Document Type | Details / Purpose |
| NEET-UG Scorecard | Proof of qualifying NEET |
| NEET-UG Admit Card | Verification |
| Class 10 Certificate | Age proof |
| Class 12 Marksheet & Certificate | Academic eligibility |
| Passport | Mandatory NRI proof |
| OCI Card (if applicable) | Additional status proof |
| Parent NRI Status Certificate | Required by KEA |
