JEE Main Exam Pattern
After the release of the official notification by NTA for the JEE Main Exam 2025, the exam dates were confirmed and the exam pattern was confirmed. According to NTA’s notification regarding the JEE Main Exam Pattern, there was no change in the Exam Pattern but some changes were made in the JEE Main syllabus for 2025.
JEE Main 2026 Exam Pattern as per NTA / Expected Trends
JEE Main 2026 Exam Pattern includes all the details regarding how the exam will be carried out: mode of conduction, types of questions, marking scheme. It is expected that there will be no major change in the pattern compared to 2025.
So as we all know, the exam dates for JEE Main 2025 Session-1 (January) & Session-2 (April) are out. For 2026, dates are expected similarly in January and April, with the notification likely in November 2025.

JEE Main 2026 Exam Pattern- Paper 1
Courses Include: For those students who want admission into undergraduate Engineering courses (B.E. / B.Tech).
Subjects Included: Three subjects: Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. The syllabus is based on NCERT Class 11 & 12.
Total Number of Questions: There are 75 questions in total, divided equally among the three subjects (25 each). In each subject: 20 MCQs (Section A) + 5 Numerical answer type questions (Section B), all of which are compulsory.
Total Marks: 300 marks.
Duration of Exam: 3 Hours. For PwD / differently-abled candidates, it is 4 Hours.
Question Paper Languages (Medium): Exam is offered in multiple Indian languages + English. (Same set as 2025.)
Marking Scheme:
- Correct answer: +4 marks
- Wrong answer: −1 mark (negative marking) for MCQs and for numerical questions as well.
- No marks for unattempted questions.




JEE Main 2026 Exam Pattern- Paper 2 (B.Arch / B.Planning)
Courses Include: For students who want admission into Architecture (B.Arch) or Planning (B.Planning) courses.
Subjects Included: Mathematics, Aptitude Test, Drawing Test (for B.Arch) / Planning Test (for B.Planning).
Total Number of Questions & Marks:
- Total marks are 400.
- The number of questions as of 2025 is likely to remain (Maths ~20, Aptitude ~50, Drawing / Planning section questions vary).
Duration: 3 Hours, same provision of extra time (4 Hours) for PWD candidates.
Languages: Same as Paper 1.
Marking Scheme: +4 for correct answers, −1 for wrong answers. Partial scoring rules in the Drawing / Planning test to be confirmed.
Eligibility / Other Important Criteria (2026)
- Candidates who passed Class 12 (or equivalent) in 2024 or 2025, or those appearing in 2026, are eligible.
- No upper age limit to appear for JEE Main.
- For admission into NITs / IIITs / GFTIs: General / OBC / EWS candidates need 75% in Class 12 or be in the top 20 percentile of their board; SC/ST candidates need 65% or be in top percentile.
- Subjects required in Class 12 vary by course (as above).
