Direct Admission of Students Abroad (DASA) is an admission scheme introduced by the Ministry of Education, Government of India. Under the DASA Quota, eligible NRI students, including those living in the USA, UAE, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait, Bahrain, and other Middle East regions, can secure admission into top Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs) in India. These include NITs, IIITs, SPAs, and other premier engineering colleges.
DASA UG admissions are now strictly based on JEE Main All India Rank (AIR), making it an important pathway for NRIs targeting engineering programs in India.

Q1. When will the DASA 2026 Brochure be released?
The official DASA 2026 brochure is expected to be released in June 2026 by the conducting NIT. It will include eligibility, seat matrix, fee structure, reservation rules, and admission timelines for NRIs applying through DASA/CIWG.
Q2. What is the total fee under the NRI quota through DASA?
For DASA 2026, tuition is expected to be around USD 4,000 per semester for Non-SAARC students. CIWG applicants typically pay the same fee as Indian students (₹~62,500/semester). Registration fees of $300–$350 are charged separately.
Q3. Can NRI students write state engineering entrance exams?
Yes, NRIs can apply for state-level engineering entrance exams like KEAM, COMED-K, KCET, MHT-CET, or EAMCET depending on the state. However, DASA/CIWG admissions are strictly based on JEE Main rank only, not state exams.
Q4. Can I get admission to NIT/IIT/IIIT with SAT?
No. Since 2021, SAT scores are no longer valid for DASA/CIWG engineering admissions. JEE Main rank is the only accepted criterion. IIT admissions are exclusively through JEE Advanced and are not covered under the DASA quota.
Q5. Can I apply for both CIWG and Non-CIWG categories?
Yes, eligible CIWG candidates can apply for both CIWG and DASA categories by paying the applicable DASA tuition during registration. If you are allotted a CIWG seat, the extra fee is refunded after the admission cycle ends.
Q6. Can an NRI student take admission under the General Quota?
Yes, an NRI may compete under the General JEE Main quota just like domestic students by clearing JEE Main/Advanced. However, General Quota does not provide fee concessions or reserved seats available under CIWG/DASA.
Q7. Does IIIT Hyderabad offer CIWG reservation?
No. IIIT Hyderabad does not participate in the DASA/CIWG scheme and has no CIWG reservations. It conducts admissions through its own channels like UGEE, JEE Main percentile shortlisting, and SCAI programs.
Q8. Do US-based NRI students qualify for CIWG?
No. CIWG applies only to students whose parents work in specific Gulf countries. US-based NRIs are eligible for the DASA quota but cannot avail CIWG fee concessions unless they meet Gulf employment conditions.
Q9. What documents are needed to prove CIWG eligibility?
CIWG applicants must upload parent’s passport, resident visa, valid work permit, and employer letter confirming Gulf employment. These documents must be current and valid as per the year of application, usually 2025–26.
Q10. Is JEE Main mandatory for all DASA 2026 admissions?
Yes. DASA/CIWG admissions for 2026 are strictly based on JEE Main rank. No SAT, AP, IB, or school board marks are accepted. NRIs in USA, Middle East, and other countries must appear for JEE Main to be eligible.
