After each round of seat allocation is complete, the candidate either gets the seat according to their “locked” choices or the choices that were last retained by them if no alternatives as such are “locked” after the time-window that allows filling-in of the choices shuts down. If a candidate is allotted a seat in any of the rounds, the next step is to download “JoSAA (year) counselling provisional allotment letter”.
Note: According to the latest update from DASA, from session 2021-22 onwards, JEE Mains Rank is mandatory for NRI/ PIO/ OCI/ FN Students to be eligible for DASA & CIWG Schemes. Hence, 2020-21 will be the last year when SAT 2 scores will be considered for DASA/CIWG Scheme.

Payment of Seat Acceptance Fees: JoSAA
It is after all these formalities of rounds of JoSAA have been dealt with, the candidate is supposed to make the payment for the acceptance of the seat allotted to them.
While many get the seat of their choice and make the payment, there are quite a few who don't make the payment just for the sake of preserving the seat they have primarily gotten and wait for the next round of allocation of seats by JoSAA to fetch the desired seat.
For the candidates belonging to the general category, the Seat Acceptance fee is around Rs. 45,000/-
For those belonging to SC/ST/Gen-PwD/OBC-NCL-PwD/SC-PwD, it stands around Rs. 20,000/-
Payment Mode for JoSAA Seat Acceptance Fees:
The JoSAA system avails candidates with different payment methods.
Each candidate can make the payment considering their level of convenience. One of these methods is SBI e-Challan, which allows the students to make the payment by directly crediting the amount to the bank account of the institution they have opted for.
This is done by following a particular format laid down for depositing or remittance of statutory payment at a bank. Another alternative for the payment processing procedure is ‘Net Banking’ under which the internet facility is used by the candidate to transfer the funds for the acceptance of the seat.
The account details such as IFSC Code, account number, are provided to the candidate allows the candidate to transfer the amount directly to the institute by carrying out a short online process.
The fee is directly transferred to the bank account of the institution, making it a faster and more convenient method.
The last method available for the candidates is using ‘Debit card’, which allows the candidate to make the payment on the spot and gives confirmation instantly thus giving assurance to both the candidate and the Institution. The last two methods are extremely convenient and secure.
Whether you are a student in India or a foreign candidate or an NRI student going through the Seat Allocation process of JEE, all process has been made convenient for everyone.

Withdrawal of Seat: JoSAA Seat Allocation:
A candidate might need to withdraw his/her acceptance of a seat due to several reasons, one of them being the college allotted being lower on the preference list of the applicant.
For this, the ’withdraw option’ is made available to the students to make the process of surrendering the seat allotted to the applicants an easier process.
The withdrawal of the seat allotted can be opted for until the 7th round of counselling by JoSAA.
Once either applying surrenders a seat for withdrawal on the online portal or by reporting to the reporting centre of the particular institution, the candidate will lose the present seat, and the allotment of another seat will depend on the student’s AIR as well as the availability of seats.

Refund of the JoSAA Seat Acceptance Fees:
After the seat has been withdrawn, the acceptance fee can be refunded. The refund can be claimed online after JoSAA portal is logged into by the candidate or by physically visiting the reporting centre.
The refund application will be considered applicable and viable only if the candidate has reported to the reporting centre of the institution, the seat of which has been withdrawn by the applicant.
The refund is provided to the students after deducting an amount of 1,000/- which pertains to the processing charges during the procedure of counselling.
The candidate needs to possess proper proof before claiming the refund amount. In case the payment has been made using the method of SBI e-challan, the candidate should make sure to reprint the challan option and get access to the reference number showing the payment was made.
When further opened, it also shows the amount of payment made. This all should be presented at the reporting centre in the form of a hard copy.
This initiates the process of refund and makes the process of withdrawal less intimidating.
NRI Students are also eligible to apply for DASA / CIWG Counseling with their JEE Main Rank to take admissions in NITs, IIITs & CFTIs with their JEE Main Rank (from 2021 onward).
Thus, the JEE Acceptance Fee has a procedure of its own, which synchronizes with counselling session by JoSAA. Both the payment methods and the refund ones are convenient and designed to make the process of selection of the desired seat a smoother one.
