Is PCM Really Not Mandatory For Engineering From 2022??
This question might be stuck in many minds and many rumors are circulating regarding the new guidelines by AICTE which says PCM is not mandatory for engineering courses so the answer is “YES” students can pursue engineering courses without Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics but there are some guidelines which we will discuss further.
As we all know that if students want to study engineering in India then he/she must clear class 12th with PCM but from this new session i.e. 2021-22, students can take admission in engineering colleges without having Physics and Mathematics as main subjects. This happened due to new guidelines for students by AICTE.
AICTE or All India Council for Technical Education announces that Physics, Chemistry, or Mathematics are no longer mandatory for students as there are new guidelines which say that from the session 2021-22, students can select any 3 subjects from 14 subjects to pursue their 12th class and if students pass class 12th examination with minimum 45% in selected subjects then students are eligible for taking admission in engineering courses like B.E and B.Tech.
Let us know more about those subjects from which students can get the key to engineering colleges without PCM

These 14 subjects shown in the above table are selected by the AICTE for admission in engineering courses, without selecting any 3 subjects in class 12th students will not be able to take engineering admission in any college.
This is a great step by AICTE as students did not need Physics and Mathematics in many engineering specializations like Agriculture Engineering, Biotechnology, etc., Chemistry was also considered as the main subject like Physics and Mathematics for students to take engineering admission but a few years back chemistry was made optional and students without chemistry can easily take admission in engineering colleges.
This step is taken due to students facing many problems as many students are keen to take admission in Agriculture engineering but cannot take admission as they did not have any Mathematics in class 12th.

Effect on JEE examination by new guidelines
The new guidelines of the All India Council for Technical Education did not change anything in the exam pattern or syllabus for JEE exams.
JEE or Joint Entrance Exam have no effect of these guidelines as Physics and Mathematics are as important for JEE exams as they were earlier. Students cannot take admission in IITs, IIITs, NITs without qualifying JEE mains or advance so it is clear that if students want to pursue their Under Graduation (UG) from IITs then they must have Physics and Mathematics as main subjects + 1 subject from the above table (14 subjects designated by AICTE).
Conclusion
As we can clearly see that from now onwards students willing to take admission in engineering colleges can easily take admission by choosing any 3 subjects out of 14 in class 12th. Now students did not have to worry about Physics and Mathematics subjects they can take engineering admission in any specialization. Students must note that if they want to pursue JEE mains or advance then they must have Physics and Mathematics as main subjects with one additional subject and without Physics and Mathematics students will not be eligible to sit in JEE exam which means students cannot take admission in IITs, IIITs, NITs or any college where JEE mains or advance exams.
