Studying in a US high school does not make a student ineligible to apply for IIT.
The issue is whether the student’s Class 12 or equivalent qualification conforms to the official IIT admission criteria.
The examination conducted by a public school, board or university of a foreign country will be treated as equivalent for JEE Advanced 2026 if it is recognized by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) as equivalent to 10+2 system of India.
Candidates who have passed Class 12 or equivalent outside India or through Board not otherwise specified were required to produce AIU equivalence certificate.

JEE Advanced tests a combination of conceptual understanding, problem-solving speed and the ability to combine multiple concepts in one question.
