Gulf Quota (CIWG Scheme) 2026-NRI Admission Into Indian Engineering Colleges
CIWG Scheme 2026
CIWG Scheme 2026 is a special admission quota under DASA for children of Indian workers in Gulf countries seeking admission to NITs, IIITs, SPAs, and other top engineering colleges in India.
Gulf Quota (CIWG Scheme) for NRI Students in Indian Engineering Colleges
The Gulf Quota officially known as the CIWG (Children of Indian Workers in Gulf Countries) Scheme, continues to be one of the most preferred admission pathways for NRI students and parents living in Gulf nations. It is especially popular among NRI families residing in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait, and Bahrain, and also among students living in the USA whose parents are employed in these Gulf countries.
To understand the Gulf Quota in Indian engineering colleges, it is essential to understand how the DASA Scheme and its sub-category CIWG operate, including their seat reservation system for NRI students.

DASA-2027 will be coordinated by one of the NITs (as officially stated on the DASA portal). The conducting NIT for 2027 is yet to be confirmed, and the official DASA Brochure 2027 will be released shortly after the announcement.
Admissions to undergraduate and postgraduate programs under the DASA scheme for 2027 will be based on JEE Main Score 2027, including for NRI students living in the USA and Middle East applying under CIWG/DASA quota.
Under the DASA Scheme, around 2400 supernumerary seats are made available each year in participating engineering institutions such as NITs, IIITs, SPAs, and CFTIs. These seats are reserved for NRI, OCI, PIO, and Foreign National students across the globe, including those living in the USA, UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Bahrain, and Saudi Arabia.
Students securing admission under DASA must qualify through JEE Main, which is now the only accepted entrance exam for 2026–27.
CIWG – Approx. 800 Seats Reserved for Gulf-Based NRIs
As per the CIWG (Children of Indian Workers in Gulf) Scheme, 1/3rd of all DASA seats are reserved specifically for NRI students whose parent is employed in a Gulf country.
This means that approximately 800 CIWG seats are available exclusively to students from families working in:
UAE
Kuwait
Qatar
Bahrain
Oman
Saudi Arabia
NRI students living in the USA can also apply under CIWG only if one parent is currently employed in one of the above Gulf nations and provides valid documentation as per DASA guidelines.
The reality is that many NRI parents, especially those living in the USA, UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Bahrain, and Saudi Arabia, are still unaware of how limited and competitive the Gulf Quota (CIWG Category) seats actually are. Although CIWG is one of the most beneficial pathways for NRI students due to its significantly lower tuition fees, the total number of seats available under the Gulf Quota remains limited to roughly one-third of the DASA seats, making it highly competitive.
To help families understand the opportunity clearly, here is a simplified walkthrough of how NRI seat reservation works under the Gulf Quota / CIWG Quota, and why early preparation for JEE Main is crucial for securing one of these limited seats.

A unique DASA category known as the CIWG (Children of Indian Workers in Gulf) Scheme reserves places for qualified children whose parents are employed in Gulf nations like the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, and Bahrain.
Who qualifies for the CIWG, or Gulf Quota
Students who meet the DASA and JEE Main standards and whose parents work in a Gulf country are eligible to apply under the CIWG category.
Are American NRI students eligible to apply under CIWG
Yes, but only if they meet the CIWG documentation standards and one of their parents is employed in a Gulf nation that qualifies.
Which nations are covered by the CIWG Program
The Gulf nations that qualify are ,Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE)
What distinguishes CIWG from DASA
While CIWG is a special subcategory inside DASA allocated for children of Indian workers engaged in Gulf nations, DASA is the larger admissions program for qualified foreign candidates.
Which universities use the CIWG Scheme for admissions
The DASA/CIWG program offers seats at numerous participating NITs, IIITs, SPAs, and other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs).
Under the CIWG quota, how many seats are available
Although the precise seat matrix may differ depending on the institution and admission year, about one-third of the DASA seats are set aside for qualified CIWG candidates.
