For applying to these colleges, the NRI candidates must have knowledge of the total cost of studying in Bihar, including tuition fees, hostel fees, mess fees, travelling fees, insurance fees, and other related fees. This is a comprehensive guide for the fee structure of Bihar engineering colleges for the year 2026-27 under the DASA and CIWG categories.
Engineering Colleges Fees In Bihar For NRI
There are many good engineering institutions in Bihar, which have admission facilities for NRI, OCI, PIO, and international students using DASA, CIWG, JoSAA, JEE Main, and other institution-specific admission procedures. Some top institutions like NIT Patna and IIIT Bhagalpur provide good engineering education with separate tuition fees for DASA and CIWG aspirants. It is suggested that students must check all the relevant information before applying for admissions in 2026–27 academic year.
| State | Institute | Programs Offered | Admission Pathways for NRI Students | Fee Details |
|---|---|---|---|---|

The fee structure for foreign students (NRIs) in engineering institutes in Bihar depends upon the institute, admission category, and course offered by the institute. The fee structure for DASA or CIWG applicants will be different, which they need to consider before making admission for the year 2026-27.
| College | Regular / Institute Fee | DASA Non-SAARC Fee | DASA SAARC Fee | CIWG Fee |
| National Institute of Technology (NIT) Patna | ₹62,500 per semester (approx.) + institute charges | US$300 + US$4,000 (First Semester) | US$300 + US$2,000 | US$300 + Regular Institute Fee |
| IIIT Bhagalpur | ₹1,80,000–₹2,00,000 per semester (approx.) + hostel & mess | As per DASA category rules | As per DASA category rules | CIWG eligibility dependent |
Important Note: Fees related to hostel, mess, insurance, exam fees, transport, and other personal living expenses do not come under the tuition fee. Students must check the most recent fee notice released by the respective institution before securing admission for 2026-2027.

DASA-2027 will be coordinated by one of the NITs (as officially stated on the DASA portal). The conducting NIT for 2027 is yet to be confirmed, and the official DASA Brochure 2027 will be released shortly after the announcement. Admissions to undergraduate and postgraduate programs under the DASA scheme for 2027 will be based on JEE Main Score 2027, including for NRI students living in the USA and Middle East applying under CIWG/DASA quota.

The NIT Patna is among the best and oldest government engineering colleges in India. Admission to the NIT Patna B.Tech programme is made through the JEE Main and JoSAA process for Indian candidates whereas for NRI, OCI, PIO, and international candidates, admission is provided through the DASA quota. Candidates from Gulf countries are eligible for the CIWG quota which comes at a lesser fee compared to the general DASA quota.
| Category | Admission Route | Fee Planning |
| Regular Indian | JEE Main / JoSAA | ₹62,500 per semester (Approx) |
| DASA Non-SAARC | DASA | US$300 + US$4,000 |
| DASA SAARC | DASA | US$300 + US$2,000 |
| CIWG | DASA-CIWG | US$300 + Regular Institute Fees (Approx ₹62,500 per Semester) |
Non-SAARC is the common mode of admission for NRIs who reside in countries outside the SAARC region such as the USA, Canada, UK, Australia, Singapore, and others. CIWG is the mode of admission available to candidates whose parent is an eligible Indian worker in Gulf countries such as UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait, and Bahrain, and CIWG usually commands a much cheaper fee than the DASA mode of admission.

There is an inclination among many NRI parents to evaluate engineering colleges solely based on the tuition fees. It needs to be understood that the cost of education at NIT Patna/IIIT Bhagalpur would include much more than just tuition fees. Some other costs involved would be the cost of hostel stay, mess, transportation, study material, medical insurance, and even the living costs.
| Expense Head | Why It Matters for DASA, CIWG & NRI Students |
| Tuition Fee | Academic fee which falls under the admission criteria of Regular, DASA, CIWG or NRI. |
| Institute Charges | Fees include academic, exam, student well-being, library, laboratory, insurance, and other fees of the institute. |
| Hostel Fee | Includes the cost of accommodation for those students who live in the campus premises. |
| Mess Fee | Costs of food and dining are normally separate from the tuition fees. |
| Travel Cost | Includes air travel, airport pickup/drop, and other travel costs during semester break. |
| Laptop and Books | Required for programming, engineering projects, assignments, and online learning. |
| Personal Expenses | Daily expenditures like laundry charges, mobile charging, healthcare, stationery, etc. |
| Document & Verification Cost | Passport renewal, document verification, courier, transcript, and other admission-related expenses. |
| Medical Insurance | Ideal for international and domestic NRIs, OCI, PIO and other students during academics. |
| Emergency Fund | Additional funds for any kind of emergency expenses related to travel, health, and academics. |

It all comes down to budget, branch, career aspirations, and admissions options. There are many factors that need to be considered before arriving at a final conclusion. These include tuition fees, eligibility criteria for DASA/CIWG, placement stats, campus facilities, hostel facilities, internships, etc. NIT Patna is usually favored because of its reputation, availability of different engineering branches, and the network of its alumnis, whereas IIIT Bhagalpur is better suited for those who want to study Computer Science and Electronics and technology-based education.
