Hi, I’m TestprepKart.

Aiming to take JEE Main and want to understand the exact seat-allotment procedure under the DASA 2025–26 Scheme? TestprepKart walks you through the admission process followed for NRI, OCI, PIO and CIWG applicants.
Under the latest guidelines, seat allotment is strictly based on JEE Main All India Rank (AIR) and the institute/branch preferences selected by applicants in order.
Download NRI JEE EBookDASA allots seats based on the following core criteria:
1. JEE Main Rank Consideration
Only JEE Main (AIR) is used for merit and seat allotment.
SAT Subject Tests are no longer accepted under DASA/CIWG admissions.
2. Merit List Preparation
A centralized merit list is prepared using JEE Main AIR as per the data received from NTA.
3. Allotment of Institutes & Courses
Seats are allotted across participating NITs, IIITs, SPAs, and CFTIs in multiple rounds, purely based on:

Under the current DASA/CIWG admission policy, only JEE Main All India Rank (AIR) is used for seat allocation. Applicants must ensure their JEE Main results are sent through the NTA portal when submitting the DASA application. If a student has appeared for multiple JEE Main attempts, the system follows a score-choice mechanism, meaning the best JEE Main result will be considered automatically, and students do not need to submit all attempts separately. SAT Subject Tests are no longer valid for DASA/CIWG admissions.
The JEE Main scores are only considered only if applicants send them via NTA account. If an applicant has taken the JEE Main multiple times, DASA always encourages the Score Choice concept.
That is, the applicant can send his/her best individual JEE Main scores to DASA. DASA never asks you to submit all your test scores. But from now, JEE Main is valid to take admission through DASA quota.

DASA prepares the merit list purely on JEE Main All India Rank (AIR). The rank submitted through the NTA system is used for seat allocation.
If two applicants have the same AIR, DASA applies the inter-merit rule. The tie-breaker is based on the Date of Birth, where the elder candidate is given preference.
The decision of the DASA committee remains final and binding for all applicants.
You need to apply once the DASA 2026 online application form goes live (expected around June 2026, as per recent cycles). The entire process is online and especially convenient for NRI students in the USA and Middle East.
Seat allotment is done in multiple rounds based only on JEE Main All India Rank, your filled choices of institutes/branches, and category (DASA/CIWG). TestprepKart walks you through each round of the DASA/CIWG seat allotment process step by step in this article.

DASA considers all eligible applicants in Round-1 based purely on JEE Main 2026 AIR and the filled choices of institutes and branches. The Round-1 allotment list will be published on the official DASA portal.
Applicants will not receive separate email notifications, so all NRI students (especially in the USA & Middle East) are advised to check the portal regularly.
Tentative Round-1 Result Date for 2026:
Late June / First Week of July 2026 (to be confirmed in the official DASA 2026 brochure)
Once a seat is allotted, the candidate must confirm/accept within the specified window; failure to do so will result in forfeiture of the seat and loss of eligibility for further rounds.
If you receive your first-preference seat in Round-1, you will have two options:
1. Accept
Confirm the allotted seat, download the Provisional Admission Letter, and submit it to the Indian Mission (if required) to support your visa/documentation process.
2. Decline
If you choose not to accept the allotted seat, or fail to confirm within the prescribed deadline, DASA treats it as a decline.
You cannot participate in Round-2 or Round-3 afterward.
However, you may still join Round-4 and Spot Round by re-registering and paying the additional USD 300 registration fee.
If you are allotted a seat that is not your 1st preference, you will have three options:
1. Accept
Keep the allotted seat and skip further upgrades.
Download and sign the Provisional Admission Letter, then submit it at the institute during reporting dates (as per schedule).
This letter also supports visa processing when needed.
2. Accept & Upgrade
Keep your current seat but allow DASA to consider you for higher-preference choices in Round-2 based on your original option list.
If you get a higher preference, Round-1 seat will be automatically replaced.
If not, your Round-1 seat remains secure.
3. Decline
If you decline, or fail to confirm within the deadline, your allotted seat is cancelled and you become ineligible for Round-2 & Round-3.
However, you may re-register for Round-4 & Spot Round with an additional USD 300 fee.
DASA will treat unconfirmed seats as cancelled, and the seat will be added to the next rounds.
For Round 2, DASA considers all the eligible applicants who aren’t allotted a seat in Round 1 and all the applicants that hit Accept &Upgarde in Round 1 will be considered as per inter se merit.
You can see the Round 2 seat allotment once the DASA finalizes the Round 2 list on 1st Week of July 2021. You won’t be notified regarding it. So DASA advices all the applicants strongly to check the website for the announcements of seat allotment.
If you won’t be able to accept the seat within the prescribed duration, DASA NIT won’t be taking any responsibility for it.
DASA splits this Round 2 into two categories. They are –
You’ll get 2 options in this case.
Hit Accept, if you are accepting the allotted institute/programs in the Round 2, download the provisional allotment letter generated and send it to the Indian Mission to pace up the visa process.
Hit Decline, if you’re denying the allotted institute/programs in the Round 2. DASA acknowledges the unaccepted seats as declination if you fail to accept the seat within the prescribed duration.
Such applicants aren’t allowed for Round 3. But they can attend Round 4 & Spot Rounds. They have to re-register for Round 4 & Spot Round and the registration fee would be 300 USD.
You will get 3 options here.
Hit Accept if you’re happy with the institute/program you have got and don’t want your higher preference choices in Round 2 allotment. You can generate the Provisional Admission Letter in this case.
Download it and print the Provisional Admission Letter. Now sign it and submit it to the allotted institute during the admission time (June24-27). All candidates are advised to submit this Provisional Admission Letter as a proof to pace up the visa procedure.
Hit Accept & Upgrade if you’re accepting the currently allotted seat and want to participate in Round 2 to get the higher institute/program as per the original choices filled by you at the time of filling the application.
You can generate the Provisional Admission Letter in this case. If you get the seat that has the higher preference in your list of choices in Round 3, the seat allotted in Round 2 will be canceled automatically. If you won’t get the better institute/college in Round 3, your Round 2 seat will be allotted to you.
Hit Decline, if you don’t wish to accept the allotted seat. DASA considers this as Seat Cancellation / Withdrawal Letter would be generated. By hitting Decline, your current seat will be canceled and you won’t be eligible for Round 3.
You can re-register to apply for Round 4 & Spot Round. The declined seat will be added for the subsequent rounds for the eligible applicants.
If you failed to confirm your allotment on or before 1st week of July 2021, DASA will presume you as a candidate that doesn’t want the allotted seat and cancel your Round 3 eligibility. You have to re-register to attend the Round 4 & Spot Round. Re-registration just costs 300 USD.
In Round-3, DASA considers all eligible applicants who have not been allotted seats earlier or those who opted for “Accept & Upgrade” in previous rounds. Seat allotment results are published online, so students must regularly check the official DASA portal. Failure to accept the seat within the given deadline will lead to automatic cancellation.
Round-3 Allotments fall into two categories:
If you receive your first-preference institute/program in Round-3, DASA gives you four options:
If you do not receive any seat in Round-3 but wish to continue to Round-4, you will have two options:
Important:
You must confirm your Round-4 participation within the specified timeline. If no option is selected, DASA assumes you are not participating. Such candidates must re-register later (with the required fee) to attend Round-4 or Spot Round.

Round-4 seat allotment is conducted strictly on inter-se merit based on JEE Main AIR. Candidates eligible for Round-4 typically include:
During this phase, the portal usually reopens for choice editing and new registrations. Applicants must ensure:
Final Round-4 allotment will depend on available seats, candidate rank, and updated choice list.
Note: Exact dates, fee timelines, and seat matrix confirmations will be published in the official DASA 2026 brochure once released.
If you receive an allotment in Round-4, you will have two options:
Once you accept your Round-wise seat allotment, DASA will issue a Provisional Admission Letter. This document must be downloaded and submitted at the allotted institute during the official reporting window (dates will be announced in the DASA 2026 schedule).
Reporting with original documents is mandatory. If a candidate fails to report within the prescribed dates, the seat stands cancelled and will be released for later rounds or Spot Round allotment.

Internal Sliding is conducted by participating colleges after students report to their allotted institutes. Vacant seats (if any) are reallocated internally based on inter-se merit and JEE Main rank.
Once internal sliding is completed and vacant seats are confirmed, DASA conducts the Spot Round to fill all remaining seats across participating institutes.
Spot Round is conducted by DASA to fill all remaining vacant seats across participating institutes after all regular seat-allotment rounds are completed.
Applicants who did not secure a seat earlier, as well as new candidates who did not apply previously, can participate in the Spot Round. Eligible candidates must submit their JEE Main 2026 scores through the DASA portal to be considered.
DASA will reopen the online system for choice submission and fee payment during the Spot Round application window (exact dates for 2026 will be published in the official brochure). Ensure that any tuition fee paid via SWIFT transfer is credited before the Spot Round deadline, otherwise the application may not be accepted.
Candidates must carry original documents for verification at the reporting institute.
If a seat offered in Spot Round is not accepted within the given timeline, no fee refund is applicable.

1: How are seats allotted under DASA/CIWG?
Seats are allotted strictly based on JEE Main All India Rank (AIR), the applicant’s category (DASA/CIWG), choice order of institutes and branches, and seat availability in each round. No other exams or alternative selection criteria are considered.
2: Are SAT Subject Tests accepted for DASA admissions?
No. SAT Subject Tests are no longer accepted for DASA/CIWG admissions. Only JEE Main AIR is used for merit preparation and seat allotment in all rounds. Applicants must ensure their JEE Main result is transmitted through NTA to DASA.
3: How is the DASA merit list prepared?
The merit list is created solely using JEE Main All India Rank submitted via NTA. If two applicants share the same rank, DASA uses Date of Birth for tie-breaking, giving preference to the older candidate as per committee rules.
4: Do I need to upload all JEE Main attempts?
No. DASA follows a score-choice mechanism, meaning only the best JEE Main AIR is considered automatically. Applicants do not need to upload every attempt separately, as the system reads the highest-scoring attempt from NTA.
5: How many rounds of seat allotment are conducted?
DASA conducts multiple rounds, Round 1, Round 2, Round 3, Round 4, and a final Spot Round if seats remain vacant after internal sliding. Each round is based exclusively on JEE Main AIR and choice priorities.
6: What if I get my first preference in Round-1?
If allotted your first-choice institute/program in Round-1, you may either Accept the seat and download your Provisional Admission Letter, or Decline and exit Round-2 and Round-3. Declined students can re-register later for Round-4 or Spot Round.
7: Can I allow upgrades after Round-1 allotment?
Yes. If you choose “Accept & Upgrade,” you retain your allotted seat but remain eligible for higher-preference branches in subsequent rounds. If a better option appears, it replaces the earlier allotment. If not, your previous seat remains confirmed.
8: What happens if I miss the seat confirmation deadline?
If a candidate fails to confirm their seat within the specified timeline, DASA treats it as declined. The allotment is cancelled, eligibility for the next round is lost, and the seat is released. Re-registration is required for Round-4 or Spot Round.
9: Who is eligible for Round-4 allotment?
Round-4 is open to students who opted for Round-4 after Round-3, those who missed or didn’t participate in earlier rounds, and students who declined previous seats but re-register. Allotment is based strictly on JEE Main AIR and updated preferences.
10: What is the Spot Round in DASA?
The Spot Round is the final seat-allocation stage held after internal sliding to fill leftover vacancies. New applicants and previous non-allottees can participate by submitting JEE Main scores, updating preferences, paying applicable fees, and reporting with original documents.
