Direct Admission of Students Abroad (DASA) is a scheme of the Ministry of Education, Government of India, that provides an excellent opportunity to Foreign Nationals, Overseas Citizens of India (OCI), and Non-Resident Indians (NRI), including those living in the USA and Middle East (UAE, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia), to study in various undergraduate programs in premier Indian technical institutions such as National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), Schools of Planning and Architecture (SPAs), the Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology (IIEST), and other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs).
Note: The category “Persons of Indian Origin (PIO)” has been officially discontinued by the Government of India and has merged into OCI. (Confirmed from the latest DASA 2026 brochure.)
Since the SAT Subject Test option has been removed, admissions under DASA/CIWG 2026 are based entirely on JEE Main 2026 All India Rank for engineering seats.
The DASA 2026 brochure (official PDF link to be verified) has been released (or will be released shortly), outlining updated eligibility, required documents, fee structure, and seat allotment procedures. Students can also refer to the previous year’s brochure for reference.
The DASA 2026 Brochure is released and you can check the previous year’s DASA Brochure given below.
Currently, the coordinating institute for DASA 2026 has not been formally announced on the official DASA website. References indicating that NIT Calicut will be conducting DASA 2026 remain unverified and should be treated with caution until an official notification is released.
Once the official DASA 2026-27 brochure is released, you can download the PDF from the DASA website under “Downloads / Brochure” section.
Admission under DASA/CIWG for 2026–27, for undergraduate and postgraduate programs in premier Indian technical institutes, will be based on the candidate’s JEE Main 2026 All-India Rank.
The DASA scheme requires that Indian-national applicants (including NRIs, OCIs, and foreign-nation students) must complete their 11th and 12th (or equivalent) education abroad if applying under DASA as Indian Nationals. Repeatedly, DASA eligibility guidelines state that for Indian citizens seeking admission under DASA, there should be at least two years of education, including 11th and 12th, taken in a foreign country (within the last eight years) and the qualifying exam passed abroad.
Under the CIWG sub-category, the applicant must be a child of Indian expatriates working in eligible Gulf countries (UAE, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, etc.).
Additionally, like all DASA/CIWG applicants, they must have a valid rank from JEE Main (since SAT-based admissions have been discontinued).
Academic Eligibility Criteria for NRI Students as per DASA
Students must complete Class 11 and 12 (or equivalent) from a recognized board outside India (USA, Middle East, etc.).
Physics and Mathematics must be core / compulsory subjects in both Class 11 and 12.
As of now, DASA/CIWG does not mandate a fixed minimum marks percentage or CGPA for 2026, the only mandatory selection criterion is JEE Main rank.
Students must appear in JEE Main 2026, admissions will be based on JEE Main All India Rank (AIR).
Eligibility applies to NRIs, OCIs, Foreign Nationals (FNs), and others residing and studying abroad (USA, Middle East, etc.) for the required period.
There is no age limit to appear for JEE Main or for applying under DASA/CIWG.
Students appearing in Class 12 in 2026 (with result awaited) may apply, admission will be provisional pending final results submission.
Q1. Has the DASA CIWG 2026 brochure been officially released?
The DASA CIWG 2026 brochure status is still pending confirmation. While some claim it is released, no official PDF is visible on the DASA portal. Students should wait for the official brochure link under the “Downloads / Brochure” section for verified updates.
Q2. Who is conducting DASA 2026 for NRI/OCI students?
The official coordinating institute for DASA 2026 has not been confirmed yet. Online mentions of NIT Calicut are unverified. Only the DASA website announcement is considered official, so applicants must wait for the notification in the 2026 brochure.
Q3. Is JEE Main rank compulsory for DASA CIWG 2026 admission?
Yes. Since SAT Subject Tests were discontinued, JEE Main 2026 All-India Rank is mandatory for all DASA and CIWG applicants, including NRIs in the USA and Middle East. No alternative test scores are accepted for engineering seats in 2026–27.
Q4. Are PIO students eligible for DASA CIWG 2026?
PIO (Person of Indian Origin) category no longer exists. The Government of India merged PIO into OCI. Therefore, OCI, NRI, and Foreign National students are eligible under DASA CIWG 2026, including those living in the USA and Middle East.
Q5. What is the academic eligibility for NRI students under DASA CIWG 2026?
Students must complete Class 11 & 12 outside India from a recognized board, with Physics and Math as compulsory subjects. JEE Main rank is the only selection criterion. No fixed minimum percentage rule has been notified for 2026.
Q6. Is there an age limit to apply under DASA CIWG 2026?
No. DASA and CIWG do not impose any age limit for applicants at the undergraduate level. Students simply need to complete Class 12 (or equivalent) abroad and have a valid JEE Main 2026 rank for admission.
Q7. Can Class 12 appearing NRI students apply for DASA CIWG 2026?
Yes. Students appearing for Class 12 in 2026 can apply. Admission will remain provisional until final Class 12 results are uploaded within the DASA timeline. JEE Main 2026 rank submission is also mandatory for seat consideration.
Q8. Who qualifies under the CIWG category for DASA 2026?
CIWG is only for children of Indian workers employed in eligible Gulf nations, UAE, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Saudi Arabia. Students in the USA do not qualify for CIWG and should apply under the general DASA category.
Q9. Is a minimum stay abroad required for DASA CIWG eligibility?
DASA rules mandate that Class 11 and 12 must be completed abroad. Earlier guidelines referred to “two years abroad,” but students must cross-check the final 2026 brochure for the updated wording, especially for documentation proof requirements.
Q10. Which institutions accept DASA CIWG 2026 admissions?
NRI and OCI students can seek admission to engineering programs in NITs, IIITs, SPAs, IIEST, and Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs) under DASA CIWG 2026. IITs are not covered under DASA admissions. Final institute list will be in the brochure.
