What is DASA Scheme exactly?
DASA is the abbreviation for ‘Direct Students of Admissions Abroad’. The DASA scheme was launched by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, India (MHRD) for NRIs (Non-Residential Indians), PIOs (Persons of Indian Origin), OCI (Overseas Citizen of India) & Foreign Nationals who want to take admission in the renowned Technical Institutes of India like NITs/IIITs/CFIs/SPAs/IISERs.
This scheme made it easy for the students to apply for the UG (Under Grad.) Courses in NITs, IIITs, SPAs and other CFIs of India, apart from the IITs. In other words, MHRD gave an opportunity to all the Indian citizens to pursue graduation who are residing abroad.
DASA 2025-26 (Latest DASA Update- JEE Mandatory):
From 2024 onwards, all eligible applicants would be drawn on the basis of JEE Main Scores only. Earlier, only the scores of SAT Subject Test Scores were required for an NRI student to be eligible for taking admission in Top Indian Institutes based on DASA Scheme. But according to the latest official notification from DASA (given in April 2019), SAT Scores will no longer be required (from 2021) for DASA Quota Eligibility.
Hence, NRI students preparing (preparing from 2025 or 2026) to take admission in Top Indian Engineering Colleges of India must rigorously practice on JEE Exam Pattern in order to avail the benefits of the DASA Scheme or CIWG Scheme.
Speaking of CIWG, Children of Indian Workers in Gulf Countries is a scheme generated by MHRD, India for the children of Indian expatriates in Gulf countries looking for admissions at the premier Indian Institutes through the DASA scheme. CIWG is the subset of DASA scheme i.e. CIWG is 1/3rd quota of DASA.
