Important Affiliations top engineering colleges in India have
Engineering is one of the most preferred streams of education in India. There are numerous engineering branches available and new streams of engineering are born every year. With it, grows the demand for engineers and engineering. Indian institutes are considered the best to pursue engineering. Indian engineering colleges are affiliated by certain governing bodies.
Affiliations increase the standard of the institution. These affiliations are rewarded of rounds of inspection and analysis about the infrastructure and achievements of the university. It is also based on the performance of the candidates who have passed out from these institutions. Here are a few affiliations that are given to engineering colleges in India.
All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE):
The AICTE is an apex advisory body that facilitates technical education all over India. The AICTE mainly deals with the formulation of norms and fixing up standards for institutes that provide technical education in India. It also provides funding to these institutions. AICTE certifies and approves the college or university. The AICTE deals with setting up of new institution, change in location of an existing institution or closing of an institution. It also provides grants and funds from time to time to help these institutions improve their infrastructure.
University Grants Commission (UGC):
The University Grants Commission is set up under the Ministry of Human Resource Development, that works to maintain the standard of educational institutions. UGC controls State, Deemed, Central and Private Universities. The UGC is vested with responsibilities like coordination and maintenance of standards in all Indian Institutions. UGC is bestowed with the responsibility to give the status of Deemed Universities to institutions. It is the preliminary educational institution regulating body in India.
National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC):
The NAAC is an autonomous body under the UGC. It mainly facilitates affiliation for Higher education institutions in India. NAAC evaluates the Quality status of the institution and ranks it accordingly. The scores are based on Curriculum, infrastructure, outcome and projects in that particular institution. Depending on the performance eight different letter grades are awarded to institutions. The best one being A++ and the least score being D. When choosing the university or college, candidates can refer to the NAAC accreditation to select the best universities to get a quality education.
National Board of Accreditation (NBA):
The National Board of Accreditation (NBA) was initially initiated by the AICTE. The primary function is to ensure quality education by institutes. NBA provides accreditation to the different courses offered by Technical institutions. The function of both NAAC and NBA is similar. While NAAC provides accreditation to the institution, the NBA provides accreditation to the different courses offered.
Institutes with NBA Accreditation are internationally accepted under Washington Accord in 20 countries.
The top engineering colleges in India are the Indian Institute of Technologies (IITs). Almost all the IITs are provided with the status of deemed universities in India. The National Institute of Technologies (NITs) also falls under the Deemed university status in India.

State Level Affiliated Engineering Institutes in India:
Several other engineering colleges are affiliated to the State Universities. These affiliations determine the curriculum, infrastructure and other parameters of the college.
Some of the state affiliating bodies are Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), Maharashtra. This body is responsible for the undergraduate and postgraduate technical education in Maharashtra region. It also ensures that the standard of education provided by the institutes affiliated under DTE is up to the standard. Similarly, Anna University in Tamil Nadu is an affiliating body that makes sure that the curriculum and other aspects of Institutes in Tamil Nadu are in order.
Once candidates complete their formal schooling education it is necessary that they identify top institutes. Students may find it difficult to grade institutes. They can differentiate the best universities from the rest based on the accreditations and ratings provided by different accrediting bodies. This will give an overall idea about the institute as well as the course wise performance.
