IB Mathematics
Mathematics is one of the toughest subjects in the IB subject groups. There are four new courses available in Mathematics (Introduced in 2021) namely:
- Mathematical Analysis and Approaches SL
- Mathematical Analysis and Approaches HL
- Mathematics Application and Interpretation SL
- Mathematics Application and Interpretation HL

Since different individuals have different needs, interests, and abilities, so each Mathematics course is designed in a way to meet individual needs of students: for those who want to gain in-depth knowledge of mathematics, either as a subject or to increase their interests and knowledge in mathematics-related areas;
Those who wish to gain an understanding and competence to understand their approach to other subjects; and those who may not be aware of how mathematics might be relevant to their studies and its importance in their daily lives.
While making a selection of mathematics, students should take the following points into account
A. Their abilities in mathematics and the mathematics type in which they can be successful
B. Their interest in mathematics, and those areas of the subject that may be of most interest to them
C. Their choices of other subjects for the Diploma Programme
D. Their academic plans meaning the choice of subjects they wish to study in future
E. Their choice of career
F. Students can take assistance and advice from their teachers on how to choose and select their choice of the mathematics course.
IB Mathematics Course Details
Mathematical Analysis and Approaches SL
This course focuses important mathematical concepts through the development of mathematical techniques. The aim of this course is to introduce students to the mathematical concepts in a coherent way.
As such, Students should be able to apply the mathematical knowledge to solve realistic problems in an appropriate context. This course is not suitable for students who want an in-depth knowledge of the subject and hence they are recommended to go for Mathematics AA HL courses.

Mathematical Analysis and Approaches HL
This course is demanding as it requires individuals to study a broad range of topics through different approaches and more depth. The course focuses on developing important mathematical concepts in a comprehensible and rigorous way by the means of a carefully balanced approach.
This course emphasizes on developing the skills needed for mathematical growth and communicating mathematical ideas. Students are encouraged to apply their mathematical knowledge to solve problems in meaningful contexts.

Mathematical Application and Interpretation SL
The syllabus of this course focuses on the topics that are interconnected. It emphasizes on understanding of fundamental concepts and developing students’ reasoning power rather than performing routine operations; solving problems embedded in a wide range of contexts; using the calculator effectively.
The course includes project work where students will have to submit a project work based on their own knowledge and research and they will be supervised by their teachers. They can carry out a study based on their own knowledge, research and skills. This course is mostly opted by students whose interest lies outside the field of mathematics.

Mathematical Application and Interpretation HL
This course is an entirely a new course and it's unlike any other previous Mathematics subjects. It is more application based and has more depth and knowledge as compared to Mathematics Applications and Interpretaion at Standard Level.
